Hotel prices continue to skyrocket but slow their rise at the gates of summer

The last Holy Week skyrocketed hotel prices and, a month later, at the gates of a summer stressed by high demand, hotel prices continue to rise but have slightly slowed their growth. The annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (HPI) stood at 22.1% in May, which is 7.4 points less than that registered the previous month, according to data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

By autonomous communities, the highest increases in hotel prices compared to May 2021 have occurred in the Community of Madrid (44%) and Andalusia (34.8%). On the other hand, the smallest increase was registered in the autonomous city of Ceuta, with an annual variation rate of 0.4%. By categories, the greatest increase in prices occurs in establishments with three and two stars (26.8%).
