Health registers a sharp increase in coronavirus infections and adds 2,615 new cases, 971 on the last day

The Ministry of Health has registered this Thursday 2,615 new infections of coronavirus, of which 971 have been detected in the last 24 hours. The community that registers the most cases is Catalonia, which accumulates 1,497, of which 182 were diagnosed between yesterday and today. In total, since the start of the pandemic, 270,166 people confirmed by tests have been infected.
After Catalonia, the regions that have reported the most cases are Aragon (422, of which 415 have been detected in the last day); Madrid (215, of which 102 have been in the last 24 hours) and the Basque Country (156 and 61 between yesterday and today).
In the last week, 15 people have required admission to the ICU. They have occurred in ten autonomous communities. Catalonia is the one that has had the most (three); followed by Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha and Euskadi (all with two) and Andalucía, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia and Murcia, which each reported one.
Regarding the deceased, Health has added three to the total balance, which amounts to 28,429. Of these, seven have died as of the last seven days.
This Thursday, Public Health of Murcia has decreed phase 1 for the municipality of Totana, so it will return to confinement. This was the population that had the hardest time achieving total de-escalation in the Region last May. The announcement has been made by the Health Minister of the Murcian Government, Manuel Villegas.
Villegas has appealed to individual and social responsibility and has spoken of "maximum alert" in Totana, where the outbreak originating from a nightclub has been out of control and 44 new positives have been registered in the last 24 hours, so they add up 55 cases in total, "but that will be many more".
On the other hand, Madrid will not make the use of the mask mandatory in all situations for the time beingregardless of whether social distance can be maintained. It is, therefore, the only community in the entire peninsula that does not. This has been confirmed by the Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz-Escudero, who has added to the list of situations in which to take it "private spaces when there are meetings or people who are not living together, even when distance can be guaranteed", since "the most outbreaks are occurring in meetings and celebrations of non-cohabitants. "
Spain has doubled the total hospital admissions in one week. As of July 22, 288 new hospitalizations for COVID-19 had been registered in the last seven days, according to the report of the Coordinating Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies. It is double those registered on July 13 –146– and stands at levels at the end of May, when the official figure was at 263. In a context with more than 200 outbreaks of the disease, "it is one more sneak that need to strengthen case tracking and diagnostic tests "to control the pandemic, as defined by the former director of Public Health and spokesman for the Spanish Society of Public Health, Ildefonso Hernández.
