Health concerns bring organic food industry to boiling point




Spain is the ecological pantry of Europe. We are the first “bio” producer in the Old Continent and the fourth in the world. But lo and behold, the domestic consumption of this type of food does not correspond to these figures. Despite having such a powerful industry, and that the domestic market grew by 81% in the last five years (from 2014 to 2018), going from 1,203 million euros to 2,178, per capita consumption reaches only 46.6 euros, a figure far removed from large consumers such as Denmark and Switzerland, where each citizen spends 312 euros a year on these articles, as is also the case in Austria, which spends 205 euros and France 136.
