Half of the self-employed cannot take vacations


The work dignifies, rents and gives value, but the holidays give us rest and renewal of forces to face the return to work. This is the case at least for the majority of employees, but only for half of the self-employed, since one in two cannot go on vacation because of the obligations of their business.

45% of employees do not enjoy a vacation period, while in terms of destinations 31% stay at home and 56% travel within Spain, according to a survey conducted by the Union of Associations of Autonomous Workers and Entrepreneurs (Uatae) among their associates. Faced with the refusal of that 45% of respondents, 36% say they do have vacations, while 19% say they don't know yet. Regarding the place to rest, only 9% do so for Europe and 4% outside the European borders. On the other hand, it should be noted that 31% say they have vacations by obligation, that is, they have no job in summer. Regarding rest times, 46% have less than a week, 34% have between one and two, 8% between two and three, another 8% between three and four and 5% enjoy more than one month vacation.

For its part, the National Federation of Associations of Autonomous Workers (ATA) raises the percentage of self-employed people who cannot disconnect on these dates above 50%. His study shows that 51.3% say they will not go on vacation, a percentage of which almost 40% will not be able to take even a few minivacations throughout the year, while 11.5% may only leave for a few days, but Outside the summer season. Only 42.3% will take a few days in summer, a percentage six points lower than the one registered in 2018, when 48.8% indicated that they would go on vacation. Of that 42.3% that will be closing these days, 78.2% will leave less than 15 days, of which the majority (42.6%) will do so for less than 8 days. In this sense, only 6.2% of self-employed workers will enjoy more than 20 days of vacation. One in five self-employed people who do not go on vacation has been going for more than 5 years And 23.4% say that since starting their business, they have never enjoyed more than 4 days off.

As for the ability to disconnect, Uatae says that 66% of the self-employed say they are still connected to work during all their vacations, 15% say they have to be alert for a few days, 11% only a few hours a day and only 8 % disconnect completely. However, it is 44% of respondents who state that their work does not allow them to rest well during their vacations, while 23% do rest and 32% make it "regular". With regard to the low and high, according to this survey, only 6% unsubscribe as autonomous in summer. In addition, 88% of the self-employed believe that they would have more vacations if they were salaried, compared with 4% who believe they would have less and 8% who would have the same.
