The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, assured today that the Executive is going to fulfill the commitment reached with Podemos to regulate the price of rents, although she has specified that it will be carried out through the Budgets or a bill.
In an interview in the SER, Montero has reiterated that the Executive "complies with what is agreed", after questions about the general secretary of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, not to support the validation of the royal decree law of urgent measures for the sector of the House approved by the Government on December 14.
That decree law with urgent measures on housing includes changes in the regulation of rent -such as raising the mandatory extension of contracts to 5 years or limiting the bonds to 2 monthly installments-, but does not include price caps.
Montero explained today that the decree law has "limitations" by technical criteria, so that price limitation could be introduced either in the processing of the Budget Law or through a bill.
"We will not have any problem in that way," stressed Montero, to "attack a problem that exists in big cities»
The minister has rejected that the Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, was the one who promoted in the Council of Ministers that the limitation in the royal decree was not included, as well as that there have been pressures to the Government from investment funds with that same objective .
