Gustavo Dudamel will conduct “Otello” at the Liceu, his first opera in Spain

Barcelona, ​​Mar 16 (EFE) .- The Venezuelan director Gustavo Dudamel, one of the most sought after today in the world, will direct his first stage title in Spain, an “Otello”, by Verdi, which will be on the bill between 27 and on March 31 and from April 6 to 14 at the Gran Teatro del Liceu, as reported by the institution.

After making his debut on the Rambla stage in October last year in two performances of “Il Trovatore” in concert version, Dudamel returns to lead a production with a cast led by Gregory Kunde and Jorge de León in the role of Otello; with Krassimira Stoyanova and Eleonora Buratto as Desdemona and Carlos Álvarez and Zeljko Lucic as the evil Yago.

The Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Theater Choir will also participate in the assembly, the production of which is carried out by the Bayerische Staatsoper, with the stage direction of Amélie Niermeyer.

The montage was premiered in Munich in 2018 and focuses on the figure of Desdemona, underlining femicide and misogyny with “glasses of modern realism.”
