Growth of Spain, Brussels lowers its forecast to 2.1%

The European Commission (EC) down today one tenth its growth forecast for Spain in both 2019 and 2020, to 2.1% and 1.9%, respectively, and warned of risks linked to greater internal and external uncertainty.

In its winter macroeconomic forecasts, the community executive points out that this slowdown will be due mainly to the slowdown in private consumption, which will grow to a lesser extent than revenues, while increasing household savings.

The projection of the Commission for this year is slightly more pessimistic than that of the Government, which estimates that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will advance 2.2% in the year.
