Google Play must host in its showcase Aptoid, an Android mobile app store that was eliminated, causing great damage to the start up Portuguese
The sentence condemns Google for unfair competition, since it eliminated Aptoide from its application store or warned of its risk to who downloaded it on the mobile. Initially, the start up Portugal filed a complaint with the European Commission, but in July it decided to take its complaint to the Portuguese courts.
The court has requested the reinstatement of Aptoide in Google Play and opens the door to the request for compensation for the damages and losses caused. According to Aptoide, it has lost more than two million users in 60 days.
The company, which says it currently has 200 million users in 82 countries, says Google recently installed antivirus software that alerts users to the danger that the Aptoide application may have to download.
Although Google has not yet reacted to the ruling, given its history with other litigation is sure to appeal the decision of the Portuguese court.
Last year, Google was fined by the European Commission with 2,420 million euros for abuse of its dominant position, which has appealed. The decision of the EC opened the way to the claims of companies that were harmed by Google practices that favored in their search algorithms some and punished others.
