The Canary struggle has fired one of its great bastions, a figure of a fighting caste. Juan Pedro Pérez Machín, 'Juan Perico', who died last Monday. Juan Perico, brother of Francis Pérez, the "Pollito de la Frontera", was a member of several clubs: El Hierro, San Cruz, Frontera, Ramón Méndez and Productos de El Hierro, in a long period with his brother, who dominated the fight in the Canary Islands. Both led the representative from Herrera to numerous league and Cup titles.
Juan Perico was also a lover of the traditions of his land, as evoked by the Cabildo herreño, who remembered him as "the father and guardian of our emblem, the Giant Lizard of El Hierro, whom he protected, pampered and cared for years going up with its shepherd's pole to the steep cliffs of the Fuga de Gorreta ".
