Gldar breathes cinema with the launching of its sixth festival - La Provincia

He Galdar International Film Festival 2018 is served. The sixth edition of the contest directed by the actress and director Ruth Armas is celebrated between October 15 and 20 with the figure of the woman and the filmmaker Pedro Almodovar as a protagonist, about the 30th year of the film Women at the edge of a nervous attack. The festival begins next Monday 15th with the will to continue growing and positioning the municipality of Gran Canaria as a shooting location thanks to one of the strong points of the program, the contest Gáldar Rueda, in which directors, actors and technicians assume the challenge of shooting a short film in 48 hours with the theme proposed by the organization.

With an official section in competition that projects a package of 8 feature films and 28 shorts from different sources, "from Kosovo to Japan", competing for the noble metal guayarminas -a total of nine are delivered this year-, as highlighted by the director Ruth Armas, the Gáldar Film Festival faces the challenge of 2018 with reinforcement in its training activities with different workshops that will be held during the week, children's screenings, and different tributes, as is the case of the actress Petra Martínez, who will receive the Guayarmina of Honor at the closing gala held at the Cine Guaires on Saturday 20, and that will be conducted by the actress Bibiana Fernández and the journalist Kiko Barroso.

"When dreams come true, they thrill," the director said Tuesday. Ruth Armas in the presentation of the programming of the Galdar International Film Festival in the Gran Canaria capital, in an act in which she was accompanied by the insular councilor of Culture, Carlos Ruiz; Nuria Guinot, of the Gran Canaria Film Commission; Teodoro Sosa Monzón, mayor of Gáldar; Y Julio Mateo Castillo, councilor of Culture of the grancanario municipality.

An edition is "very special", according to Ruth Armas, for the aforementioned tribute to Almodóvar, and that in turn "we honor the power of women", which among other actions is charged the exhibition Gáldar on the verge of a nervous breakdown, from Vesna Pop Art, which will occupy the hall of Guaires Cultural Center from Tuesday 16, at 6.15. Ruth Armas highlighted the commitment to the training workshops that will have as protagonists the members of the jury, in the case of a discussion of interpretation with the intregrants of the juries of long and short films of the official section: Daniel Holguín, María Hinojosa Y Álex Hernández (long jury), Mariam Hernández, Red Rain Y Carlos Santos (jury shorts), on Tuesday the 16th at Casa Verde de Aguilar.

To this is added a colloquium workshop on screenplay starring Diego San José, screenwriter of 8 Basque surnames, on Wednesday 17, also in Casa Verde de Aguilar; and another workshop on production in this same space, on Friday 19, with Kiko Martínez, producer of Skins, The bar or Perfect Unknowns.

To the names of the juries of the official section it is necessary to add another two juries that correspond to the categories of Architecture and Landscape, for short films, which has the contest of Elsa Mª Gutiérrez Labory, Juan Sebastián López García Y Manuel Montesdeoca Calderín; and the jury Gáldar Rueda, comprising Marta de Santa Ana, Anu Jato Y Gustavo Mendoza

Among the films to contest, in the fiction feature film competition, they include: Nick, from José Pozo. (Andorra), Apocalypse Voodoo, from Vasni Ramos (Canary Islands) and Kill God, from Caye Casas Y Albert Pintor (Spain), and in the documentary mode, Barefoot Giants, from Álvaro Priante and Ivan Roiz (Spain), The Postcards of Roberto, from Dailo Barco (Canary Islands), The Painter of Skulls, from Sigfrid Monleon (Canary Islands), Sara Baras All Voices, from Rafa Moles Y Pepe Andreu (Spain) and Hall 4, from Diego Gachassin (Argentina).
