Fuel consumption fell 25% in March to January 1999 figures

Automotive fuel consumption plummeted 25.2% year-on-year in March, the month in which Spain went into alarm to curb the spread of the coronavirus on the 14th day, and recorded its lowest level since January 1999.

As reported on Friday by the Strategic Reserves Corporation for Petroleum Products (Cores), the consumption of automotive fuels was last month at 1.76 million tons.

Gasoline fuels had the greatest decrease in March, with a drop of 34.4%, to 276,000 tons (the lowest consumption since February 1973); while diesel consumption was 23.2% lower than in March 2019, with 1.49 tons, which constitute the lowest consumption figure since February 2002.
