from 4,000 layoffs to 3,572

Banco Santander advances in its new ERE. The group has reached a principle of agreement with the unions, according to what CCOO, the majority in the bank, assured this Thursday. The current terms accepted by CCOO represent a cut in the initial layoff plans, reducing from 4,000 affected to 3,572 people.

The plan presented by the company to the unions supposes the payment of up to 76% for workers over 55 years of age who have been in the bank for more than 15 years. For workers between 50 and 54 years old, the bank guarantees 65% of six years of wages plus voluntary bonuses according to the years of seniority. For those under 50 years of age and those who do not reach the required 15 years, it offers 40 days per year worked up to a maximum of 24 months.

The agreement also includes the relocation of 1,500 employees in group companies, preferably the youngest age profiles. Another 400 employees will go to Santander Personal. A pre-agreement has also been reached with CCOO regarding mobility, which is limited to 100 kilometers. Those employees whose partner, a former bank employee, left in the previous two EREs, in 2017 and 2019, are outside the perimeter of this adjustment.
