Free Now proposes to liberalize the licensing of taxi licenses

The taxi sector has been asking for more flexibility of schedules and prices for months. This Wednesday, Free Now has taken another step and has called, through a study called "Prospects for the future of urban mobility in Spain" and prepared with PwC, that the Government grant new taxi licenses to reduce the time of wait and lower the level of CO2 emissions in big cities.
About 70,000 taxi licenses are currently in circulation, according to the platform. A number that has remained immovable for years, despite the fact that the number of driver's licenses with drivers has grown gradually due to a legal vacuum. Free Now believes that this restriction has become "obsolete" because the population has grown strongly in recent years and you have demanded "a demand for new forms of mobility" has not been answered.
The general director of the taxi platform, Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, has not specified in the presentation of the report the exact number of new licenses that should enter into circulation. «We have not yet raised how this measure should be articulated, we have simply collected a series of initiatives that would increase the competitiveness of the sector, ”he explained.
And this is not the only measure proposed by the platform. Free Now also proposes four other actions in the report: make prices more flexible, open working hours, promote shared taxi and eliminate geographical limitations. According to the company, these initiatives would generate an economic impact of 214 million euros in Madrid and Barcelona.
