France replies to Trump and believes that IS "remains a threat" in Syria

The French government said today that the Islamic State (IS) "continues to be a threat" in Syria and said it is negotiating with Washington the deadlines for the withdrawal of US troops in Syrian territory announced by US President Donald Trump.

"We believe that the Islamic State continues to be a threat in the Levante area and that this terrorist organization can continue to operate in more restricted areas, especially in Syria," said a spokesman for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The same source did not say whether the withdrawal of the 2,000 American soldiers from that country will affect the operations of the international coalition that fights the IS since 2014 in Syria and Iraq.
