France investigates alleged extortion of people from the Benzema environment

The French justice has opened an investigation for a supposed extortion in which several people from the environment of the footballer would be involved Karim Benzema, who has responded with the announcement that he will go to court for a complaint that he considers slanderous.

The information site «Médiapart» reveals this issue, which goes back to the past October 7 in the French capital, where the Real Madrid player had moved to attend the match between Paris Saint Germain and Olympique de Lyon, and It revolves around an intermediary known in the world of football, Léo D'Souza.

The next day, D'Souza denounced an attempted kidnapping and having been the victim of violence by a childhood friend of Benzema, Smaïne Tabennehas – who denies it -, in the presence of the football player's driver and Yamna Aghrib, his communication manager.

He had been summoned to a bar in the XIII district of the French capital, where, according to his version, he was going to have a conversation with Benzema himself through the FaceTime application, but that did not happen.

The reason for the appointment was a dispute that D'Souza maintains with the player by an order that he had made last July so that will transport from Morocco to France 50,000 euros from a sponsor for which the forward had made a provision.

D'Souza did not hand over the money because, according to what he explained to the investigators, the Moroccan customs officers seized it at the Marrakesh airport, but the other party does not believe him and hence the October 7 altercation.

The procedure launched by the Paris Prosecutor's Office for attempted extortion is a consequence of the allegations of that intermediary.

In a first reaction Benzema's lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, complained, in an interview to the station «RMC Sport», that Your client is being attacked "in a gratuitous and cynical way".

Cormier, who said he filed a complaint of breach of trust, announced that he would formalize another for "slanderous accusation." EFE
