Formula 1 has announced this Wednesday the new Vietnam Grand Prix, which will join the calendar of the competition from April of the year 2020 with an urban circuit in Hanoi, capital of the country, and that aims to "broaden the appeal of Formula 1".
"Since we got involved in this sport in 2017, we have tried to promote the development of new destination cities to expand the appeal of Formula 1 and the Vietnam Grand Prix is an achievement of all that ambition," said the president of the F1, Chase Carey, in a statement issued on the World Cup website.
This is the first new race announced since the Liberty Media group became the largest shareholder of Formula 1 and with the Grand Prix of Vietnam they want to maintain the firm commitment of the competition with Asia, where the races in Singapore, China and Japan are already well established in the calendar.
It is also part of the long-term strategy formulated by Formula 1 to expand the appeal of sport and reach new audiences around the world. "We are delighted to be here in Hanoi, one of the most exciting cities in the world right now, with such a rich history and an incredible future ahead." This is the perfect formula for racing and I hope the Vietnam Grand Prix will become a real highlight in the F1 calendar. ", added the American director.
The promoter group Vingroup of Hanoi has signed a multi-year agreement to organize the Grand Prix, which will be an urban race in the heart of the city. The 5,565 km track will offer an exciting racing experience for both riders and fans alike.
"With the mission of getting a better life for the Vietnamese, Vingroup wants to take this race to Vietnam for the general benefits for society, since more jobs will be created and the infrastructure of Hanoi will be improved. In addition, through this Formula 1 event, we will inaugurate the first Vietnamese car manufacturer, VinFast, to millions of audiences in the world, "said Vingroup Vice President and CEO Nguyen Viet Quang.
