Alberto Oliart, who was Minister of Defense, Health, and Industry and Energy, between 1977 and 1982 in the successive UCD governments, died this morning in Madrid at the age of 92, according to family sources informed Efe.
Oliart, born in Mérida (Badajoz) in 1928, was president of Radio Televisión Española between 2009 and 2011. He graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona in 1950, and 13 years later became head of the Technical Cabinet of the Undersecretary of Finance . Also in 1965 he was appointed Administrative and Financial Director of RENFE.
His time in politics was marked by the 1977 elections, where the then Prime Minister, Adolfo Suárez, appointed him Minister of Industry and Energy. There he was only a few months until he became the Health portfolio.
