The headquarters of Ford in the US has just announced that the factory of Almussafes (Valencia) will stop manufacturing annually 41,000 units of the commercial vehicle Transit Connet from 2021. The production of the new generation of this van, which was destined to the Export mainly to the North American country, will be transferred to the factory that has the oval signature in Mexico.
Ford Almussafes produces around 380,000 units of five different models a year. In addition to the van in its cargo and passenger versions, the current Kuga, the S-Max, the Mondeo and the Galaxy leave the factory. The aim of the multinational is to maintain these models, with the incorporation of new version of Kuga, whose launch was scheduled for after next summer.
From the signature it is emphasized that the Kuga is the star car since it belongs to the main sales segment, the SUV. So far, it is not planned to replace the manufacture of the van with another model and insists on the importance of Kuga, for which 750 million euros will be invested. Kuga accounts for 50% of the work of a staff of 7,400 employees.
The chairman of the Works Committee, Carlos Faubel, said yesterday that, of course, it is not good news, although "there are two years to go before that happens." "If we do not have anything in return," the plant will have a problem in the medium term, the representative added. At this time, workers are being informed of the new plans of the company, what is cutting work in Europe, while it increases the employment in its US factories and the workload in Mexico.
