The price ofgasolineand thediesel oilthey have become more expensive7.7%and a8.8%, respectively, in the first quarter of the year, according to data from the Oil Bulletin of the European Union collected by Europa Press.

In particular, the average price of the liter of gasoline has chained this weekits eleventh consecutive rise, after rebounding 0.78%, to be placed in the1,277 euros, its highest level since last November.

On the other hand, the liter of dieselhas cut the upward trend that had been recorded since early January, with ten increases in a row, and has recorded a decrease in its price of 0.16%, to be placed in the1,228 euros.

Both fuels entered at the beginning of the year in an upward trend with which a downward spiral was cut that had led to a reduction of 13% in the case of gasoline, and of more than 12% for diesel, from the maximum that reached in October.

Since January 1, the so-called unique "special type" came into force, the new taxation that taxes hydrocarbons consumption and that was regulated by the previous PP Government in the PGE of 2018, which has caused a rise in the retail prices of gasoline and diesel of 10 and 22 cents per liter, respectively, according to data from the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).

Specifically, since the beginning of 2019, the two sections of the old Retail Sales Tax for Certain Hydrocarbons (IVMDH) were integrated, the 'autonomic section' (which varied between zero and 4.8 euro cents per liter and whose amount was decided by each community ) and the 'state tranche' (which amounted to 2.4 cents per liter) in a single tax. This new tax, called 'special rate', was raised to 7.2 cents per liter and is applied equally throughout the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

According to the regulator, the impact of this tax modification is that, although pre-tax prices decreased, there was an increase in retail prices.

Fill the deposit is about 5.5 euros more expensive

With the current prices, the filling of an average deposit ofgasolineof55 liters costs about 70.23 euros, about 5.4 eurosmore than at the beginning of the year, while in the case ofdiesel oilamounts to 67.54 euros, about 5.5 euros more than at the beginning of 2019.

The rise in fuel prices since the beginning of the year is also accompanied by an increase in the price of oil prices.

This Thursday, the barrel of Brent crude, of reference in Europe, traded above the 67.6 dollars, in the same levels as a week ago, while the American Texas was exchanged for about 59.28 dollars.

Gasoline is cheaper in Spain than in the EU average and the euro zone, where the average price of sale of the Euro-Super 95 liter of fuel to the public stands at 1,396 euros and 1,433 euros, respectively, while the liter of diesel costs an average of 1,35 euros in the EU – just like last week – and 1,345 euros in the eurozone, slightly lower than seven days ago.

The lower level of final prices with respect to neighboring countries is due to the fact that Spain, despite VAT increases, higher taxes and biodiesel taxes, still has a lower tax burden, in general, than the average community
