When one thinks of the first LGTBI + national referents, it is easy to go back to the initial years of the Transition and the Madrid Movida: the opening of mythical rooms such as Gay Club, Almodóvar’s films, the hymns that have become Who cares or Break free. We tend to forget that the freedom of the 80s is founded on those who began to be visible during the Franco regime; not only on the capital’s big stages, frequented by artists like Antonio Amaya and Coccinelle, sexual dissidence from the peripheries was also essential: the Basque Country had Francis, Asturias had Rambal, Valencia had La Margot.
