Ferrovial, new steps forward in all key markets

2020 was a busy year for Ferrovial, one of the main global infrastructure operators. Some of the most iconic assets in which the company participates are the Canadian highway 407 ETR, London Heathrow airport, and the Texas Managed Lanes NTE and LBJ or the Australian Toowoomba.

In line with the strategy marked in your Horizon 24 Plan, which establishes the North American market as one of its main ones, has carried out different projects in the United States. Among them are the award of the expansion and renovation of the FM 1960 highway in Houston or the improvement of the IH 35 highway in Laredo. It also highlights the agreement reached with Llilium to develop a network of more than ten vertiports in the United States, as well as the signing of the agreement with Hyperoop TT to analyze opportunities in hyperloop projects in the United States, including the so-called Great Lakes Hyperloop, which will link the cities of Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. It has also increased its participation in the US highway I-77, located in North Carolina.

The company also has been awarded projects in other key markets such as Peru with the award of the construction of the control tower of the Jorge Chávez international airport in Lima and six other auxiliary buildings, all of them located in Lima, or Poland with the reconstruction of the Warszawa Zachodnia railway station located west of the city of Warsaw. The extension of the Porto Metro has also been awarded.

Roads

Through its US Construction subsidiary Webber, it will carry out the renovation and expansion of the FM 1960 highway in Harris County, north of Houston, a project valued at about 60 million euros. Within the framework of the contract, a 4.6-kilometer section of the road will be expanded from four to six lanes, which is one of the main arteries in the area. The project includes some 142,000 square meters of concrete pavement, 15,400 square meters of structure surface and 1,200 tons of box-girder steel.

In addition, the US construction subsidiary has been awarded the improvement of highway IH 35 in the city of Laredo, Texas, for 115 million dollars (equivalent to about 103 million euros).

On the other hand, Ferrovial has launched AIVIA Orchestrated Connected Corridors, an initiative to develop 5G smart roads and advanced monitoring, sensorization and simulation technology, which has the participation of Microsoft, 3M and Kapsch TrafficCom. The project includes road infrastructure technologies to improve the traveler experience, which includes safety, reliable travel times or access to infotainment from the vehicle.

Other companies are expected to join AIVIA, participating in aspects that contribute to the implementation of both digital and physical infrastructure and orchestrated solutions for the roads of the future.

Other markets

Ferrovial Construcción is part of a consortium, together with Acciona and the local construction company JJC, which has been selected by LAP (Lima Airport Partners), operator of the Peruvian airport sector, to build the control tower of the Jorge Chávez international airport in Lima and others six auxiliary buildings, all of them located in Lima, Peru. The project includes, in addition to the air traffic control tower, the construction of a service building to support this control tower, as well as a regulation and transformation center where the beacon system facilities will be located.

A fire fighting building and another wildlife control building, designed to house raptors and other animals that may appear in the area, as well as the sewage and drinking water network.
