The three social platforms of the company Facebook they were six hours without service this Monday as a consequence of a change in the configuration of the routers that coordinate traffic between the company’s data centers.
The failures with WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook began to be noticed around 5:30 p.m. this Monday (peninsular Spain time), as collected by the DownDetector portal. Its incidence was global, and it prevented users from accessing the platforms (neither through the app nor the web) and sending messages in the case of WhatsApp.
The service of the three social networks started to recover around midnight, six hours after the connection problems were detected, due to “a faulty configuration change”.
Specifically, the drop in service was due to changes in the configuration of the routers that coordinate network traffic between the company’s data centers, which disrupted the traffic. This “had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, paralyzing our services,” explains Vice President of Infrastructure, Santosh Janardhan, on the Facebook Engineering blog.
The manager also assures that there is no evidence that user data has been affected as a result of this drop.
