Experts from Berlinale and Karlovy Vary award two Chilean film projects
A jury of experts from events such as Berlinale, Karlovy Vary and Cinéma du Réel today chose two Chilean projects in development as winners of the Chilean Cinema of the Future section of the 25th Valdivia Festival, which will favor their international circulation to obtain funding.
The projects chosen as Best Chilean Film of the Future were "La última frontera", by Fernanda Abarca and Andrés Opaso, in the Post-Production category; and "Anacoreta", by Francisco Bermejo, in the First Court category.
This is the second time that the International Film Festival of Valdivia (FICValdivia) - some 850 kilometers south of Santiago - has been programming the Chilean Cinema of the Future section, organized in collaboration with the country's Film Commission and CinemaChile, the sector's trademark. Among the jury of the section were Matthijs Knol, director of the European Film Market of the Berlinale; Paz Lázaro, director and curator of the Panorama section of the Berlinale; Karel Och, director of the Karlovy Vary Festival; and Andrea Picard, programmer of the Cinéma du Réel.
"The heart of the section is to promote Chilean cinema and its international circulation, and international experts were brought to the jury to offer them an exclusive look at Chilean projects," CinemaChile director Constanza Arena told Efe today.
As a prize, the producer of "La última frontera", Martín Cabello, will enjoy a complete stay at the European Film Market of the Berlinale 2019, one of the most important film markets in the world, in search of international partners to conclude the film.
For its part, the producer of "Anacoreta", Francisco Hervé, will enjoy a scholarship in the training program for emerging producers of the Rotterdam Lab 2019, in addition to a direct economic contribution.
Likewise, participating in this section gave them the opportunity, as well as the rest of the projects that were not winners, to show to international professionals of the area.
