EURO 2020 draw: Spain wants to avoid Germany in qualifying - La Provincia

The Spain by Luis Enrique and France's Didier Deschamps they will meet their opponents in the Euro-2020 qualifying round this Sunday in a draw in Dublin, where the Red and the world champions will cross their fingers to avoid Germany.

The ceremony will begin at noon in the Irish capital, home of the European championship in June 2020 next to Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Glasgow, London, Munich, Rome and St. Petersburg. The draw as such will start at 12 noon in Dublin.

His status as a seedhead allows Spain and France face the draw with certain tranquility, because they will not cross between them nor with Belgium, Italy, England or Croatia.

On the other hand you can see the faces with another 'coconut' of European football, Germany, fall to the hype 2 after his successive failures in the first round of the World Cup and in the League of Nations, where he suffered the humiliation of a decline to the second division .

The "Mannschaft"he wants to forget his bad performance in these two tournaments and for that he has a reserve of talents ready to explode in the national team like Leroy Sané, Timo Werner, Niklas Süle, Serge Gnabry or Thilo Kehrer.

Deschamps will certainly want to avoid a rival who struggled to defeat (2-1) in October at the Stade de France with a double of Antoine Griezmann.

Wembley in the head

But in the same hype as Germany there are also difficult teams like Russia, Bosnia, Sweden or Iceland, a selection without stars or titles but that tied the world champions (2-2) a month and a half ago in a friendly match.

In the other drums there are selections like Turkey or Serbia, where traveling is never easy.

Spaniards and French will compete in the qualification phase from March to November 2019, looking for the first or second place in the group, synonymous with direct classification to the Euro-2020, the next big tournament.

Deschamps dreams of offering France a second international double, after winning with him as captain with the World-1998 and the Euro-2000.

A failure in the classification phase is unlikely but the hypothesis can not be ruled out. In case of occurrence, France and Spain could eventually resort to the repechages of the League of Nations, a novelty introduced by the UEFA.

The repechages are scheduled for March 2020 in each of the leagues, with a system of semifinals and final.

Theoretically, the repechage posts are already reserved, in the league of French and Spanish, for England, Holland, Portugal and Switzerland. But if three of those teams seal the ticket to the European Championship through the classic route of the qualifying phase, France and Spain could dispute that repechage.

The Euro-2020, which commemorates the 60th anniversary of the tournament, will be organized in 12 cities of 12 different countries, without automatically classifying any of the host countries. The semifinals and the final of the competition will take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
