Equity and gender at the start of the COP25 ministerial section

The UN Climate Summit reaches its ninth day on Tuesday, with the start of the ministerial section, four days after the end of COP25, with numerous questions about the progress of the negotiations and a long list of parallel events in one day which puts the focus on equity and gender policies in the face of the climate crisis.

The so-called high-level segment will start with the participation of the president of COP25, the Chilean Minister of the Environment Carolina Schmidt; the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Mexican Patricia Espinosa, and the Spanish musician, singer and composer Alejandro Sanz.

There will also be the secretary general of the World Meteorological Organization, Petteri Taalas; the president of the United Nations General Assembly, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, and the acting Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera.

After them, there will be about two hundred interventions - during two days - in the plenary of high political positions of the delegations, from prime ministers to responsible of environment, energy or ecological transition of the countries, besides scientists, governmental organizations of the UN and NGOs involved as observers.

Raising the ambition, the concept that is marking this summit, is expected to ring again in the plenary, although none of the official negotiating proposals include the term.

And to a summit, which has criticized the low political weight of the US delegation - member of the UNFCCC - and even in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, from which he has requested his formal departure, some referents will arrive, such as the former US vice president and Nobel laureate Al Gore or former Secretary of State John Kerry.

With this last one, the current President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will hold a meeting, which will hold a series of bilateral meetings with the president of the UN Assembly, with the president of the Bloomberg Global Bussines Forum, Michael Bloomberg, the general director of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Qu Dongyu, and the Vice President of the European Commission Frank Timmermans.

Outside the summit, in the Green Axis of Castellana, an evocative invitation, "Let's solve the climate crisis together", the proposal with which Al Gore, promoter of The Climate Rality Project, will address half a thousand people.
