The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, has assured that from the Ministry "they are working" so that the law of 'only yes is yes' is approved as soon as possible and enters into force this summer, after the Senate yesterday approved a Junts amendment with the support of the PP and other parliamentary groups that requires the regulation to be returned to Congress for final ratification. Thus, Montero has emphasized the urgency of the entry into force of the law since, as he explained, it becomes "even more important" in the context of the summer, where there is often a greater coexistence with the aggressors of the victims of gender, he said. “There are usually spikes in sexual violence during the summer. For this reason, more in this context, the approval of the law is urgent only if it is yes, ”Montero has sentenced.

In this sense, the Equality leader has assured that they are working to "try to remedy this error" and redirect the situation, so that the law "is approved now and is effective." In addition, she has criticized that, otherwise, "this will be the contribution of the PP for a letter."

The lawyers of the Upper House already assessed yesterday if the vote on the amendment had been a mistake since it only changes one letter of the text. However, they concluded that the amendment does imply a change of meaning in the modified precept, according to what parliamentary sources informed Europa Press, for which they concluded that it is necessary for Congress to ratify or not this modification. This forces us to wait for a next parliamentary session, which is not expected to take place until next academic year, starting in September.

The minister has spoken in this regard in statements to the media, prior to her speech in the course 'Media and prevention of violence against women', which begins this Wednesday within the framework of the Summer Courses of the Complutense University in El Escorial.

«Crude electoralism of the PP

"This is the contribution and level of the PP, to use a letter to stop a law that can allow the state to effectively protect and accompany women who are victims of sexual violence," Montero has disfigured. Likewise, he has assured that "honestly" he "refuses to think" that the PP is carrying out "so crude" electoralism with "so serious" consequences for victims of sexual violence in Spain, as well as that Núñez's party Feijòo is able to stop this law that "protects the victims."

The amendment approved by the Senate, by Junts, called for the specific introduction of female genital mutilation, the detection of cases of forced abortion and sterilizations«. Equality sources considered this Tuesday that the vote had been a mistake by the lawyers because the text had already been introduced in Congress. However, there is a difference between the two paragraphs: where the Congress text says »cases of forced abortion and sterilization«, the Senate amendment says »cases of forced abortion and sterilization«. As they pointed out to parliamentary sources, it is not a change of a letter but a change of concept that intends to specify that the adjective forced covers both sterilizations and abortions, which would clarify that any type of abortion is not hidden violence. but only the forced ones.
