The employers Foment del Treball and CEIM Confederación Empresarial de Madrid-CEOE have asked for “prudence” before the proposal of the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, that it is debated to suppress the air bridge to Madrid as a measure against the climatic emergency.
In a joint statement, both organizations have warned of the “risk of damaging economic activity and employment if Madrid-Barcelona mobility is limited”, which would affect “high demand” air services of passengers.
For this reason they have asked for prudence since the demand should first be taken into account depending on the volume of passengers, the expected traffic and the actual capacity of each service, responding to both the economy and the climatic emergency.
Entrepreneurs have thus responded to Colau’s proposal, which is committed to investing more in the railroad to reduce air travel by airlift and polluting gas emissions.
Foment and CEIM have remarked that two cities such as Barcelona and Madrid need to have all possible connections and see the air bridge as “essential”, as it serves to link with international destinations such as South America.
In fact, they argue that there are currently “many transport systems” between both capitals by rail, air and road, which means “a mechanism of free competition that guarantees the proper functioning of these services and also the price.”
