Miguel de la Cierva has not had the February crisis for a couple of years. February crisis It is a scenic panic suffered by the owner of the Nautical when the summer dates approach – from June to September – he surrenders and complains to his nearest ones that he will not be able to bear so much workload. This year, as if that were not enough, summer brings you the premiere of a documentary and, to present it, a secret concert of Vetusta Morla.
It is not the first time that Madrid give a secret concert, you have to be famous to not announce your dates. This time, however, they go further because the scenario is particular: a local, the Nautical, open to the Atlantic Ocean. The place is also an emblem that brings together acclaimed singers such as Iván Ferreiro, Xoel López and Jorge Drexler for more than a decade. At the core Depedro and Leonor Watling have joined the years, singer of Marlango who is right in the documentary The Nautical: The Musicians' Refuge (EsmerArte, 2019) the cause of the success of the place: “This site would not be possible without one thing that Miguel has and is his energy”.
De la Cierva is the protagonist of the documentary, which has made it possible for a fishing warehouse to be transformed into a room with a capacity of between 400 and 500 people. The site as such was born inherited from his father, one of the first families that urbanized San Vicente do Mar (O ’Grove, Pontevedra). “There came a time that I had to choose: I was addressing my Cuban clients who paid little attention to music or satisfied the people who came to see the groups. In the end I got an important number of people to come to listen to music and, incidentally, make a box, ”explains the founder of the Nautical.
With the change of the schedule of the concerts from 13 hours to 20 hours proposed and achieved by Iván Ferreiro, the place got rid of the complaints of the neighbors. "There is nowhere to program almost two indie music concerts every day in summer," notes Nacho Carretero, present at the Vetusta Morla party, "this is the epicenter of rock." In the same tone, Tomi Legido and Yolanda Vila, owners of the Mardigras room, in A Coruña, comment on the risk of the bet: “Miguel is a completely carefree man. You come here and all you receive is hospitality, it's all authentic. If it were for money, I would have closed it a long time ago, you see what this is… ”
What is the Nautical itself are two old warehouses of boats and fishing equipment now converted into bar with stage and terrace in front of a beach 200 meters from shore. On one side, a wooden walkway enters the water and ends in a tribute monument to the Prestige volunteers; at the other limit, the route das Pedras Negras. One of the drivers of the success of the premises, Iván Ferreiro, describes the personality of the owner of the Nautical, his perseverance, as an "enlightened miguelism": "We agree that enlightened miguelism is a working formula that is applied in many companies , a business model that Google is catching right now. ” The director of the documentary, Alberto Saavedra, agrees with Ferreiro: "What interests me when I make a documentary is to tell a story, but with Miguel I have found an overwhelming character that centers the five chapters."
