El Bara signs Nick Calathes - La Provincia

Greek guard Nick Calathes, 31, will play at Barça until the 2022/23 season, if he passes the medical examination this Friday, after the agreement reached between the Blaugrana club and the player, one of the stars of the current European scene.

Calathes, 31, arrives from Panathinaikos, a team with which he has become one of the best bases in the Euroleague, and where he has played a total of eight seasons.

After the confirmation of this transfer, they will meet again in Barcelona two of the best European bases of recent times. On the track, a Calathes who arrives to be the right arm of Sarunas Jasikevicius, the new Blaugrana coach. The two played together in the PAO for the 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons.

Despite having Greek nationality, Calathes was born and trained as a player in the United States. He grew up in Florida and the new Barça player studied and he played at Florida University from 2007 to 2009. That summer, at the age of 20, he received an offer from Panathinaikos and there he began his adventure with the Greek club.

He played in the PAO from 2009 to 2012, in a first three-year period, to later go a year to Lokomotiv (2012-13) and also to the NBA. He played two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies (2013-15) where he played 138 games. In 2015, however, he returned to Greece and Panathinaikos, where he has played the past five seasons.
