Economy finalizes a profound reform of the INE in the midst of controversy around public statistics

The Ministry of Economic Affairs is finalizing a profound restructuring of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) that will include a change in statutes and, according to ministerial sources, "a reinforcement of both its resources and its staffing."

The changes may not stop there. Different internal sources of the INE consulted by ABC consider the current president of the statistical institute, Juan Rodríguez Poo, to have been amortized, and take it for granted that he will be replaced in a short period of time. The digital newspaper 'El Confidencial' published this Friday that the former Secretary of State for Social Security, Israel Arroyo, will be the one to replace Rodríguez Poo at the head of the INE, but Nadia Calviño's Ministry yesterday refused to confirm that information.
