Federica Brignone would get his second GS victory of the season in a draw with World Champion Petra Vlhova who got his first victory in the discipline. The leader of the general, Mikaela Shiffrin, was the closest to her, and in the second race she struggled to climb the podium by the narrowest possible margin, just 0.01 seconds after the victory.
“I just saw that it was the same time as Petra and that we were a hundredth before Mikaela, so it has been very close and very tight,” said a lush Brignone after the victory. “It’s amazing – the crowd – can you listen and can you see? Today is crazy. I’m so happy, I can’t say what I feel right now. ”
Federica Brignone is the only one who has won two races this season, although today’s competition has had to share it with Petra, who for the first time this year earns 100 points in the discipline.
Federica Brignone follows her mother, the former Italian skier Maria Rosa Quario, who won the slalom at the Italian alpine station in 1983. In the first race she had set the fastest time, but despite the fifth fastest time in the second she remained at the height of the slalom specialist Vlhova, 24 years old.
Petra Vlhova won her third victory this month after those two slalom races. Brignone leads the classification of the GS season with 61 points ahead of Shiffrin, seeking to become the sixth woman to win that discipline title in the last six years. There are four more GS races left this season.
Mikaela Shiffrin stayed at 0.01 points to get a three-way tie to win the giant slalom World Cup on Saturday, confirming that the GS has been the discipline with the most chances of winning for both sexes in recent years .
