Detected an earthquake of 2.4 in Tenerife, nine kilometers deep



The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has detected an earthquake of magnitude 2.4 this morning in the town of Vilaflor de Chasna, in Tenerife, with a focus at nine kilometers of depth, according to its website.

The Seismic Network that manages the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcán) has also appreciated that same movement, at 4:15, although it gives it a slightly smaller magnitude, of 1.9, and places it somewhat closer to the surface, seven kilometers away

"This earthquake is placed in the same volume where, in recent weeks, most of the seismicity of the island of Tenerife is concentrated," says Involcán.

This body, dependent of the Cabildo de Tenerife, announces through its Twitter account that throughout the day will expand information on the circumstances of this earthquake, which for the moment there is no record that has been felt by the population.

According to the IGN records, in the last four days ten earthquakes of magnitude greater than 0.5 have been detected in that area of ​​southern Tenerife, most of them in the municipality of Vilaflor.

The largest one was at 4:15 this morning, which was preceded by another one of 1.2 at 3.34 and followed by another one of 1.0 at 5.00.

In its November volcanological monitoring report, the IGN states that two low-level seismic series were recorded that month in the interior of the island of Tenerife.

"The first one, which occurred on the 6th, was made up of 22 earthquakes located in the vicinity of the town of Adeje, the largest of which was of magnitude 2. The second of the seismic series is located near Vilaflor, and has had activity continued throughout the month, with a total of 44 localized earthquakes, the largest of which occurred on day 6 with magnitude 2.6 ", details.

However, the November report also states that GPS stations do not detect terrain deformations and that no significant changes in the data provided by the geochemistry and geomagnetism networks have been observed so far.
