The National Police has arrested sixteen people in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) for the construction of fourteen single-family homes in plots located in an agricultural area of special protection.
As detailed by the National Police Force in a statement, the detainees are considered the perpetrators of a crime on the planning of the territory and urban planning.
The investigation has been carried out together with the Environmental Prosecutor's Office and has counted on the collaboration of the Town Planning Department of the City of La Línea to take measures aimed at returning the affected area to legality.
It began after becoming aware of the proliferation of newly built homes set on undeveloped land with special agricultural protection, located in the area known as El Zabal.
The owners or residents of the dwellings were subject to police interest for their alleged links to drug trafficking in the Campo de Gibraltar.
They had built the buildings ignoring any warning on the part of the authorities in matters of urban discipline of the City of La Linea.
In addition to the house itself, landscaped areas were built with great detail that denote a standard of living not in accordance with the income declared by its residents or owners.
The investigators verified that the different owners, by common agreement, divided a land of special agrarian protection in walled plots of about 800 meters and began to build their houses, without paying attention to the different warnings about the illegality of said works that they received from the competent authorities.
The houses investigated are of recent construction, less than two years old.
During the inspection of the fourteen buildings investigated, the agents proceeded to the identification and detention of the sixteen owners as alleged perpetrators of an offense over land planning and urban planning.
In the course of the investigation it has also been found that the detainees, in order to obtain the parcelling of the rustic land, had supposedly created two instrumental societies or screen companies with the sole purpose of being able to circumvent this legal prohibition.
According to the documentation analyzed, each one paid only 2,000 euros per plot.
