Disruptive design, space, comfort, technology and “Made in Spain (made in Spain) are the strengths of the new Citroën C4, a compact saloon with SUV design, which will be manufactured at the Villaverde plant in Madrid with gasoline, diesel and electrical.
The French manufacturer ensures that with this new proposal for the C segment, the most competitive in Europe, it reinvents the compact sedan with a size of 4.36 meters long.
Its commercialization is scheduled for the end of the year – prices are not yet known – and it will go on sale with the most powerful combustion engines and the electric motor with 136 HP and autonomy of 350 kilometers.
There will be 100, 130 and 155 hp Puretech petrol engines (the latter only with EAT8 automatic gearbox, which can also be chosen for the 130) and 110 and 130 hp BlueHdi diesel (this only with EAT8).
Hybrid versions are not foreseen and to configure the thermals there will be four finishes, which will be three in the electrics.
The Spanish subsidiary of Citroën anticipates that in our market 70% of sales will be with gasoline engines, 20% with diesel and the remaining 10% with electric power (it takes a 24-hour recharge to recharge its 50 kW battery for 24 hours. , a time that is reduced to between 5 and 7.5 hours if a wall or wallbox charging point is used. If it is a public 100 kW one in 30 minutes we will obtain 80% of the charge).
The brand also estimates that the typical customer is between 40 and 45 years old, that 80% are men (which is the norm in this segment) and that 12% opt for the automatic gearbox, while 90% will choose the finishes Taller.
Its direct competitors – despite its silhouette of a five-door SUV coupe – are the Volkswagen Golf or Renault Mégane in the compact segment, which accounts for 15% of market sales.
The new Citroën C4, which has nothing to do with design, performance and technology, with the C4 Cactus, which is also manufactured in Villaverde, can equip -depending on the finish- up to 20 driving aids, a new base for placing a tablet -which also has a special drawer for your accommodation- or head-up display (to project the most relevant driving information on the windshield at eye level).
The trunk it offers is 380 liters, the standard wheels are 16 inches (they can go up to 18) and the car has a SIM card for emergency calls and to request roadside assistance, among other functions.
Externally, the new Citroën C4 receives the brand’s new V-shaped light signature -which has launched the C3- and the “chevrones” reach the daytime running lights at the top and the main headlights at the bottom.
The hood, high and horizontal, resumes the concave design of the C5 Aircross SUV, while the rear highlights the sloping rear window, the bottom of the vertical tailgate and the spoiler.
Inside there is a horizontal dashboard, to give a feeling of space and volume to the interior, which has 16 storage compartments; Advanced Comfort seats, 10-inch infotainment kit, or digital instrumentation.
As part of Citroën’s strategy of offering maximum comfort on board, it offers hydraulic damping as standard in the medium finishes, which achieves a “flying carpet” effect for the occupants due to the good absorption work it does of irregularities or protrusions. the road through which you circulate.
