From early morning this Monday, many training centers They will open their doors with the intention of ending the bleeding of losses of more than two months without activity in their facilities. Phase 2 of the de-escalation in which Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura – El Hierro, La Gomera and La Graciosa start their second week in it – starts from this Monday, allows the opening of ‘indoor’ sports facilities – closed spaces – at 30% of its total capacity.
Since the beginning of phase 1, some functional and comprehensive training centers have opted to start operating with the so-called ‘individual classes’; a model that did not fit the vast majority and, of course, excluded conventional gyms.
While it is true that some gyms will wait for the pass to phase 3, some have followed an exhaustive protocol of safety and hygiene before the threat of contagion from Covid-19.
As in stores and shops, gym workers and / or specialized companies will three cleanings a day – morning, noon and night.
The previous appointment, use of mask, disinfection, limitation in the use of changing rooms and perimeter of spaces are just some of the rules that athletes who return to their training centers will have to start. On the other hand, cooperative or team sessions disappear.
The limitations regarding the capacity of the facilities refers to that the training centers have had to adjust to a situation that will be governed by a mathematical formula. To know the maximum people that you can train simultaneously in the same closed space, just divide the number of square meters by five and find 30% of the result of the first operation. For example: a 500m2 gym will be able to accommodate 30 people in each pre-established time slot.
Although it is true that the limitation has acted like a sieve, the training centers that open their doors –mostly large ships– have enabled, if they no longer have it, a reservation system For your customers. The advance notice to request a place and, above all, to cancel it has set minimum deadlines to avoid further losses.
However, some conventional gyms offer the possibility that, in the event that their maximum quota is not filled, whoever wishes may access as long as they meet the requirements.
The establishments have opted to guarantee social distancing also in its surroundings. Customers, while waiting for the entrance to be indicated, must keep two meters away from each other. The use of a mask when entering and leaving will be mandatory.
In the new normality an intermediate step is incorporated between the access and the place of sports practice; athletes are required to go through a cleaning point where they will disinfect their hands with hydroalcoholic gel and they will pass the sole of their footwear through a carpet with bactericidal liquid.
Similarly, and to avoid crowds between hours, many gyms have forked their entrance and exit.
Perimeter and circuits
Once inside the sports center, users will find that their activity will be limited to cubicles that avoid social contact. In certain cases, traffic will be governed by marks on the floor that establish the direction of travel between the machines and stations.
If the protocol chosen has been that of the perimeter, the client will have to remain in the space that has been designated until the monitors indicate otherwise. In this variant, the use of a mask is not mandatory during the session.
Use of machines and materials
To minimize the risk of contagion, companies in the sector could seal furniture that is more difficult to disinfect, such as pull-up bars and racks.
The use of the rest of the machines and materials is subject to the disinfection before and after use by the client; the gym will have antiseptic liquid dispensers distributed throughout its facility. Generally, drying will be with paper.
For its part, the use of individual towels is something that all sports centers emphasize.
The toilet and shower service will remain inoperative in most cases. However, in some cases, such as the Crossfit Circle, they limit their use with a traffic light system which guarantees that the wardrobe is only used by one person.
Given the possibility that the changing rooms are closed, it is essential to be dressed in training clothes.
