The president of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has assured that the House will initiate a new impeachment process against President Trump for his role in the assault on the Capitol if he does not resign “immediately.”
In a letter to members of Congress, Pelosi has mentioned the case of the resignation of Richard Nixon, when the president ended up resigning to avoid the impeachment process. “If the president does not leave office imminently and voluntarily, Congress will proceed with our action,” says the Speaker of the House. “Republicans in Congress have to ask Trump to leave office immediately.”
Pelosi spoke to Defense Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley this Friday about how to “prevent an unstable president from launching military hostilities or accessing nuclear codes.” A Milley spokesperson confirmed the conversation, without giving many details: “President Pelosi has initiated a call with the boss. He answered her questions regarding the nuclear chain of command.”
As reported by the AP agency through sourcesPelosi has told Democrats that Milley has assured her that steps have been taken to prevent her access to nuclear weapons.
