As reported by Defense in a statement, Spain has proposed three EMU experts to relieve three positions of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, deployed in the African country to alleviate the effects of the cyclone.
These Spanish troops would exercise, respectively, team leader, operations coordinator and logistics coordinator. Defense notes that the proposed staff has training and experience in emergency intervention and linguistic skills necessary to function in an international environment.
The ERCC coordinates the aid offered so far by Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and the United Kingdom. In addition, the EU has deployed a multidisciplinary team of 10 experts, from seven Member States, whose mission is to facilitate the coordination of the modules deployed, meet the needs of advice and liaison with local authorities, and keep informed at all times to the ERCC.
