Damm, a company with a presence in the beverage, logistics, restaurant (Knee and Hamburger Nostra) and food (Ebro Foods) sectors, achieved a turnover of 1,385 million euros in 2019, 10% more than in 2018, results that will be submitted For approval at the company’s next Shareholders’ Meeting, which will be held at the Estrella Damm Old Factory on September 29.
The gross operating result (EBITDA) was 247 million euros, an increase of 25% compared to the previous year, and the net profit was 120 million euros, 7% more than in 2018. In relation to the Internationalization, the company registered an increase in sales in all the channels and markets in which it operates. Damm is currently present in more than 120 countries. In this sense, it is worth noting the evolution of international sales in recent years, going from representing 1.5% in 2008 to exceeding 25% today.
To achieve this growth, the company has increased the total number of employees, going from 4,574 in 2018 to 4,900 at the end of 2019, the year in which the company was recognized by Merco, corporate reputation business monitor, for its ability to attract and retain talent. The investment made by Damm in the areas of research and development and technological innovation, as well as in digital transformation, was 8 million euros.
Demetrio Carceller Arce, Damm’s executive president, remarked that “the 2019 results have been the result of the company’s effort to continue growing in a sustainable way and internationally, thanks to the strength of our brands, which currently make up an extensive product portfolio, as well as the consolidation of our wide distribution network and a great investment effort aimed at increasing our production capacity, while improving efficiency throughout the supply chain. ”
The company’s activity has been affected since March by the COVID-19 crisis that led to the complete closure of the hospitality channel, but it is confident in recovering activity in the coming months. In this sense, Carceller Arce has stated that “in recent months, we have made a very notable effort to adapt to the situation, offering all our resources during the health crisis to mitigate the effects of the virus, and resolutely supporting the hospitality industry in these last weeks of start-up ”, to which he added that“ our factories have continued operating at all times, guaranteeing the continuous supply of our products, and we have also made a significant effort in technology that has allowed us to face the situation with all the security guarantees ”.
2019 has also been a year marked by sustainability, already consolidated as a transversal strategic axis applied to all the company’s activities. The improvement of environmental management has also been transferred to the business with the implementation of environmental measures such as the launch of the first Estrella Damm plastic-free cans packs through a new packaging system with 100% biodegradable cardboard.
Likewise, the company has adhered to the United Nations Global Compact, which means aligning its activity with the ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor standards, the environment and the fight against corruption, as well as the adoption of measures in support of the goals of the United Nations currently embodied in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
