Cyprus records first death from COVID-19

Cyprus has recorded the first death from coronavirus, a 70-year-old man of British origin, the Ministry of Health reported.

The patient had been hospitalized in the Famagusta district referral hospital for several days. He suffered from chronic cardiac pathology and cirrhosis.

On this divided island there are 84 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the south and 34 in the north.

Last morning, a ban on all air traffic except cargo flights came into force for a period of fourteen days.

In addition, Cyprus has closed the crossings that separate the south of the island from the part inhabited by the Turkish Cypriots, occupied by Turkish forces since 1974.
