Covid 19 advances the “rush hour” on the network during Christmas Eve and triggers calls or voice messages




He Covid-19 is turning this Christmas into a very atypical holiday, marked by restrictions and the incipient vaccination campaign. In this sense, as indicated by the data provided by Telefónica, some of our consumption patterns have also changed with regard to the use of the networks during the past Christmas Eve and Christmas. Specific, the pandemic has advanced the rush hour in the use of networks this year at between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm when last year the highest traffic intensity was concentrated between 11:00 pm and midnight.

In any case, during Christmas Eve, you have registered 39% more traffic intensity than on the same day in 2019 and 7% more if compared to a business day. In this sense, they have qualified since the first teleco of the country that this growth is “normal” and replicates the trend of other years. Regarding the minutes of voice (calls, voice messages …) its use has shot up 29% compared to a year ago, although it is 13% less than a normal working day in December.

As for the day of Christmas, from Telefónica, they estimate that the “rush hour” on the network occurred from 23 to 24 hours and that the traffic intensity increased by 49% compared to a year ago, by 8% more than a normal working day at this point of the year.

Regarding calls or voice messages, voice minutes increased by 22% on December 25 if compared to the same date in 2019, although it is 50% less than in any one working day in December.
