Coronavirus in the Canary Islands: UME, Local Police and Civil Protection distribute food to people in need – La Provincia

Civil Protection Volunteers Y Army units (UME) work together to assist and help the population to alleviate the social effects of the state of alarm and quarantine. During yesterday they went to the Polvorín municipal emergency shelter, where they carry out logistics tasks and transfer part of the equipment for the assembly of more temporary shelters in the city.

In addition, throughout the week several units have been allocated to the distribution of dinners to older people and families in need in different parts of the city, coordinated with Social Services of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Y Civil Protection of Las Palmas.

Given the current situation of confinement and movement restrictions, the Local Police, hand in hand with political and social institutions dedicate a large part of their activity to providing direct services to citizens who needs it most. This Saturday they distributed food to the elderly and families in the capital city.

For his part, Municipal Social Services of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council makes several telephone numbers available to citizens where technicians and professionals provide free advice on social resources and rights.
