The Ministry of Health establishes a unique circuit to fight against coronavirus in the Canary Islands. The alarm status decree approved last Saturday by the Minister council makes “all civil and military, public and private health facilities” available to the Ministry of Health. ANDn this sense, the Ministry of Health has found a total predisposition of the archipelago’s hospitals and private centers to collaborate in the management of this global health crisis.
The Minister of Health of the Canary Government, Teresa Cruz Oval, assured that “at this time of alarm there is no private healthcare and public healthcare: there is only one healthcare“We have to put ourselves in the worst possible scenario and for that we are working together and in coordination, always collaborating,” said the counselor.
After holding different coordination meetings, in which both Teresa Cruz and the area directors of Gran Canaria and Tenerife have participated, it has been established that the reference hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 are the third-level centers of the Archipelago: University Hospital of the Canary Islands and University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, in Tenerife; and the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands Insular – Maternal and Child Hospital Complex in Gran Canaria.
In the same way, Private clinics have made their facilities and all their staff available to the Canary Health Service. With the joint work of both, and taking into account the needs of the reference centers, there will be close collaboration throughout the healthcare process: referral of surgical processes, decongestion of hospitals.
It is planned to create a unique list of intensivist doctors for the entire island, so that they are organized together to care for patients. In addition, professionals are already being actively trained so that, when necessary, they can attend to patients automatically.
