Coronavirus in the Canary Islands: Engineers from the La Palma astrophysical complex develop protective visors for health personnel – La Provincia


Engineers of the Canary Grand Telescope (Grantecan), located in the Roque de Los Muchachos astrophysical complex on La Palma, have joined the popular initiative to manufacture protective visors for the health personnel of the island that cares for patients infected by the coronavirus Covid-19.

This initiative joins other groups of citizens who with their 3D printers make this type of protection from their homes.

The direct collaboration of the engineers of the Gran Telescopio Canarias has also focused on “participating in the elaboration of visors, masks, etc., also contributing effort in the preparation of procedures and documentation, manufacturing, verification and logistics “, report from the Grantecan.

They also point out that “the interest of the Gran Telescopio Canarias in society in general, and in La Palma in particular, is a value that on days like those we are living in takes on special strength”.
“We are putting our means to facilitate this mission, where several of our engineers actively participate,” they add.

On the other hand, the Grantecan confirms the delivery to General Hospital of La Palma from 100 surgical masks and 4 of the FFP3 type, and that they will shortly deliver another 200 units more than the first ones.
