The Ministry of Health reports the classes in all the educational centers of the Canary Islands will be suspended for at least the next 14 days. The measure It will start tomorrow, March 13, 2020. This measure includes the extracurricular activities of all secondary schools and universities.

Right now, the Canary Islands confirms 46 positive cases of COVID-19 and 5 discharges. Of these, 15 cases are hospitalized, two of them in intensive care. The accumulated total is 51 cases.
By islands Tenerife has recorded 31 positive cases plus 3 discharges, which would be 34 accumulated. In Gran Canaria 12 active cases are registered, 1 case in Fuerteventura, 2 in La Palma and two cases discharged in La Gomera.
For this reason, the Government has decided to suspend classes like Murcia, Madrid, Catalonia, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Galicia.
As it has advanced from the Executive, every day the necessary decisions will be taken to contain the COVID-19 virus. In this case, a preventive and exceptional measure is adopted to protect the most vulnerable population groups (sick, health personnel and the elderly). Schoolchildren are not a group at risk, but they can act as transmitters of the virus. Therefore, it is requested that, as far as possible, they limit their external activity to what is essential and, especially, avoid contact with the elderly and sick.

The President of the Canary Islands, Angel Victor Torres, will participate on Saturday in the meeting by videoconference with all the regional presidents, called by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
