Coronavirus in the Canary Islands: A pregnant woman in serious condition who is hospitalized in Gran Canaria – La Provincia gives birth

Woman in serious condition hospitalized by coronavirus In the Maternal and Child Hospital of Gran Canaria since last weekend she has given birth after a cesarean section, sources from the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government have reported.

The operation had no complications and the mother’s condition continues to be serious and she continues to be admitted to intensive care at the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria. For its part, the baby, a child, remains stable and under the optional supervision of the Maternal Neonatal Unit.

The intervention was carried out around 11:30 am on Tuesday in an operating room at the Insular Hospital, not in the Maternal Hospital as usual, given the mother’s state of gravity being under intubation and mechanical ventilation.

The 44-year-old mother was more than 30 weeks pregnant. Another 36-year-old pregnant woman, also admitted to the Maternal Hospital where she was transferred from the Doctor Negrín hospital, remains stable. This is the first pregnant woman to be diagnosed with coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Archipelago.

Currently in the Canary Islands, a total of 557 accumulated cases of Covid-19 coronavirus have been registered since the beginning of the crisis. Of the total cases, 207 people have had to be hospitalized, 36 of them in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

Likewise, the Canary Islands already has 17 deaths, 6 more than the last statistic, all of them people with older or advanced ages and / or with previous pathologies. The number of heals is 8.
