Coronavirus. El Corte Inglés presents an ERTE for 22,000 employees and guarantees 100% of salary

The measure will last for 14 days

The English Court reported today that has submitted to the Ministry of Labor a Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) Taking advantage of the measures authorized by the Government and contained in Royal Decree 463/2020 of March 14, which declares the state of alarm due to the health crisis caused by Covid-19. El Corte Inglés adopts this measure “Due to force majeure and with the aim of maintaining employment”, as explained.

This is a “temporary measure that will last for 14 days from the date of publication of the Royal Decree, and its extension will be determined by the duration of the current state of alarm implemented in our country,” adds the company. The Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) will affect some 22,000 people. The company is committed to complement the contributions made by the State to cover the entire salary.

Both fashion chain Sphere as Viajes El Corte Inglés, companies integrated in the El Corte Inglés Group, have also been forced to cease their activity due to force majeure as a consequence of the health alert, so They have presented two ERTEs that affect 2,000 and 1,900 people, respectively. The conditions of these two files are similar to those applied to employees of El Corte Inglés, as explained by the company.
