Continued alert for bad weather in four Italian regions

The Italian regions of Veneto, Piedmont, Emilia Romagna and Lazio remain on orange alert today due to the heavy weather that has caused 30 deaths in the last week.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Danilo Toninelli, will visit some of the most affected areas in the north of the country today, in the provinces of Belluno, in the Veneto region, and in the Friuli region.

The Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, announced that a council of ministers will be convened to declare a state of emergency and allocate funds to the regions most affected by heavy rains in the last hours.

It improves the situation in Sicily where this weekend killed twelve people after the flood of the Milicia River in the town of Casteldaccia, a few kilometers from Palermo.

Nine of the victims, including a 15-year-old teenager and his sister, belonged to two families who were surprised when the water flooded his house.

The house was a few meters from the river and was an illegal construction that had the order to be demolished for several years so that the controversy has arisen before the passivity of the authorities for this situation.

In addition, the storm caused the death of one person in the town of Vicari and two others in the province of Agrigento.

Italian authorities are still searching in Corleone, in the province of Palermo, for a missing doctor when he was driving in his vehicle to the hospital.

In Sicily, some roads are still cut off due to the floods of the rivers.
