The c consumer confidence in the spanish economy It improved in June, especially due to future expectations, although continues in a pessimistic tone in an environment marked by restrictive measures for the state of alarm to stop the coronavirus epidemic, still in force last month.

The June consumer confidence index (CCI) published this Monday by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) stood at 60.7 points, 7.8 points above what was recorded in May but far from the 100 that mark the difference between positive and negative perception.

This positive evolution occurred thanks to improved future expectations, since the assessment of the current situation continued downward.

Despite the rise in confidence registered in June, this indicator and expectations continue to register levels very similar to those obtained in mid-2013 and the one referring to the current situation at values very close to those of mid-2012 and late 2008, the lowest in the series so far.

Thus, since February of this year the consumer confidence index has fallen by 29.2%, with a decrease of 59.3% in the current situation Index compared to a more moderate loss of 5.1% in the Index. of expectations.

In any case, there is a second consecutive month of improvement in confidence after three previous months of falls, in which the drop in March stood out, when confidence plummeted 22.4 points in what was the largest monthly cut in the historical series as a consequence of the Covid-19 crisis.

The improvement in the assessment of the current situation This positive evolution is due to the positive assessment of its three components: the assessment of the current economic situation (+1.6 points), the labor market valuations (+2.6 points) ) and the valuation of households (+5.8 points).

However, both the valuation data of the current economic situation, 11.1 points, and the valuation of the labor market, 15 points, are among the worst valuations obtained to date. In fact, at the interannual level, the options offered by the labor market are valued at 81.4 points less and the situation in households at 31.7 points less.

As for the components of the expectations indicator, the greatest increases occur in relation to the valuations on the evolution of the economy in the immediate future, 16.7 points, and in relation to the future of the labor market, 12 points, while that the future evolution of the situation of households is valued positively by 8.2 points more than in the month of May.

In year-on-year terms, the evolution is "clearly negative", as expectations regarding the country's economic situation fell 25 points and those regarding the future of employment dropped 18 points, while household expectations accumulated a drop of 11, 4 points in the last year.
