Confinement has increased reading in the last year, according to Planeta

Alicante, May 11 (EFE) .- The “disastrous year” of the covid-19 health pandemic has offered a “note of optimism” to the business sector, since reading rates have increased during confinement, he assured today in Alicante the Director of Institutional Relations of Grupo Planeta, Carlos Creuheras.

In the presentation of the gala next Thursday for the awarding of the Azorín Novel Prize, organized by this publishing house and the Alicante Provincial Council and to which 208 from various countries have chosen, Creuheras has stated that “the book has been a traveling companion that it has brought serenity, entertainment and tranquility in an uncomfortable setting full of anguish and ignorance “.

The Planeta manager recalled that last year’s Azorín gala was held “in March, just before confinement”, and has argued that the reading “has helped to cope with this very difficult moment” of covid-19.

In his opinion, the confinement motivated by the coronavirus pandemic “has helped to value reading as quality entertainment” and, as an example, has commented that the novel awarded in 2020, “Naked life”, by the journalist and writer Mónica Carrillo, has exceeded 50,000 copies sold.
