Colombian arrested in an operation against extortion in Guatemala

The National Civil Police of Guatemala announced this Sunday the referral to the National Migration Institute of a Colombian citizen who was in the country irregularly, during the execution of an operation against extortion.

The Colombian, identified as John Leandro Miranda Maldonado, 29, was found in a home when agents of the National Division Against Criminal Development of the Gangs executed a raid in the Lomas de San Jacinto neighborhood, in the metropolitan municipality of Mixco .

The agents were attending the sector where Miranda Maldonado was found, in response to several complaints that entered the telephone number against the extortion of the National Civil Police.

In the operation they seized a phone book, six ammunition for wind revolver, wind gun pellets, 469 business cards, several copies of other people’s DPI, notebooks, bank payment cards, a fang (individual container) for empty cocaine and a cell phone, the Guatemalan armed entity said.

The new Guatemalan president, Alejandro Giammattei, announced last Friday the imposition of a state of prevention in the metropolitan municipalities of Mixco and San Juan Sacatepéquez to fight the maras (gangs).

The measure, the first of the different states of exception and does not require the approval of Congress, limits outdoor meetings and allows the dissolution of unauthorized meetings, groups or demonstrations.

Under the name “Recovery and Control 1”, the first operation of the Government of Giammattei, who assumed the Presidency last Tuesday, will seek to “protect the life and integrity of the people who are being threatened every day”, as well as “their assets that fall into the hands of antisocial people who come to threaten them to abandon them. “

In another operation carried out this Sunday in the municipality of Amatitlán, the Anti-Gang Division arrested an alleged gang member named Cristian Ronaldo Medina Hernández, 27, known as El Gordo.

According to the authorities, El Gordo is one of the leaders of the Crazy Gangsters gang.

At the site where Medina Hernández was apprehended, 32 sachets were seized with marijuana, an inhaler of the same drug, three telephones and 11 ammunition.

The state of prevention allows “forcibly dissolving any meeting, group or public demonstration that will take place without proper authorization, or if, having been authorized, it will be carried out carrying weapons or other elements of violence. In such cases, they will be dissolved , if the assembled or protesters refuse to do so, after having been ordered to do so. “

Giammattei stressed on Friday that the complainants will not be required “further identification”, because “their complaint is enough” for the authorities to prosecute the alleged criminals.
